Director, Business Development

Hart is looking for a Director, Business Development, who will take the lead for all sales and marketing activities of the agency and implementation of the business development plan. This includes prospecting, lead generation and qualification, presentation development and follow-up.


  • Plan and implement agency marketing and sales activities, closely coordinating efforts with senior management to meet agreed-upon annual sales goals
  • Develop and write yearly marketing and new business plan to achieve identified growth objectives
  • Identify, target and refine sales prospects and manage the agency’s CRM database
  • Identify and execute a highly targeted outbound marketing strategy for the agency, optimizing based on program performance throughout the year
  • Supervise the implementation of agency’s business development tools: website, content marketing strategy, capabilities brochure/presentation, case studies, work samples
  • Gain opportunities for agency to make sales presentations to targeted prospects
  • Maintains a strong understanding of key client industries, service/product needs, keywords and more
  • Establish and maintain a calendar for ongoing prospect contact
  • Call prospects and leads on a timely basis and oversee all required research to keep files up to date
  • Maintain regular contact with identified prospects to educate them and predispose them to agency
  • Supervise agency marketing manager and activities related to inbound marketing and lead generation
  • Follow through with all presentations, including follow-up letters, proposals, etc.
  • Assist in drafting RFPs, proposals and other new business presentations
  • Provide weekly updates to agency management on campaign performance and ongoing analytics mapping to agency marketing goals
  • Provide input on recommended sales support materials and promotional tools and initiate the development of those tools through the agency
  • Oversee and control the budget and implementation of business development


  • 5+ years of experience in sales, marketing, advertising, communications or related field preferred
  • Proven ability to serve as marketing communications counsel to assigned clients, including proactively writing and presenting marketing recommendations
  • Excellent leadership, marketing, written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in using CRM/database/prospecting tools
  • Expertise to lead senior-level client interaction and take part in client-related activities
  • Excellent management, sales, promotional, research, analytical, writing, organizational and presentation skills
  • Full understanding of, and ability to use, all agency resources
  • Understanding of client/agency relationship
  • Demonstrated fluency in digital media, analytics and overall ability to connect with audience
  • Familiarity with agency services, markets, and sales goals
  • Ability to give and accept direction and work well in a team environment
